Healthy 4 Ingredient Vanilla Cake Donuts

September 29, 2021

All Recipes, Breads, Breakfast, Sweet

So – are you a cake donut or yeasted donut person? Don’t worry, I won’t judge if you choose wrong, but cake donuts is definitely the right answer!

Something about the density of a cake donut, it’s just so much more satisfying to eat…at least in my opinion. I mean, don’t get me wrong, your girl loves a fluffy yeasted donut as well, but cake will always be my first choice. I think for a long time, I got the cake because I thought they were “healthier” than the super fried standard donut – and that was before I actually cut donuts out of my life completely for a while. What was I thinking?

Now that they are back in my life, FOR GOOD, I have so much fun making my own baked donuts at home. And of course, we are going for the cake style donuts in this household. Which is how we ended up here, at these super simple, quick, and delicious vanilla cake donuts.

Donuts should NEVER be avoided!

Sometimes I go for the crazy flavors when it comes to baked goods, but other times, I just want the classic. And nothing is more classic than vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. If you’ve got a craving for donuts, don’t want to drive to the shop, and need something easy to bake, then look no further than this recipe.

When I say simple, I mean SIMPLE! These donuts require only 4 ingredients, which I bet you already have on hand in your pantry. Here’s what you’ll need: bananas, apple sauce, some almond butter and your favorite vanilla cake mix. I do have to tell you though, using Birch Benders yellow cake mix for this recipe was the best option – I’ve linked it so that you can follow my recipe exactly if you prefer 🙂

But what about the frosting…

And the frosting is just as simple as the donut recipe! Three ingredients make this simple luscious frosting – those ingredients are greek yogurt (you can use dairy free if you need, but it should be a thicker consistency), monkfruit or stevia , and cocoa powder. Again, I have linked all of my favorite brands to use here, and they can all be found on my Amazon Shop Page along with several other baking ingredients I use regularly!

So if you’re in the baking mood, but don’t want anything TOO complicated, then I suggest you start here with these donuts. I promise, that even though they are simple, they are definitely sure to SATISFY!
